The story
A 1908 hymnal, brought back to its tunes
"We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD." Psalm 78:4
For more than a century the Punjabi Zaboor has been sung in the churches of Pakistan and North India, carried from one generation to the next and often learned by heart. In 1908, Rev. Dr. Imam-ud-Din Shahbaz (1845–1921), poet, pastor and translator, gave the Punjabi Church all one hundred and fifty Psalms in Punjabi verse, with melodies arranged with Radha Kishan from the desi raags of the Punjab.
Over the years that book became very hard to find. Many choirs today sing the Zaboor from the words alone, and some of the melodies have drifted from the way they were first written down.
This edition reproduces the 1908 Punjabi Zabur exactly as it was first printed, so that church choirs, choir directors, worship leaders and musicians can once again read the Zaboor from its original music. Every page has been digitally restored, cleaned and straightened, without changing a single word or note.
